How Michelle Remembers It:
Phil and I have a routine of going to the movies on Tuesday evenings. However, this particular Tuesday Phil had asked me if I wanted to go out for dinner before the movie. So we went to Kelsey’s which is one of our favourite restaurants.
I could tell something fishy was up because when they seated us in the bar and we had ordered our drinks, Phil kept asking me numerous times if I thought that the bar was too “busy” and if we should sit in a booth instead. I had said it was fine there, but he insisted on moving. So, we moved to a booth.
We ordered our meals and had a nice discussion while waiting for the food to come out. Our meals came out and we started eating. Part way through the meal, Phil interrupted and asked if I wanted to see this ‘thing’ he had been working on. So he pulls out our tablet and asked me to play this sweet and wonderful game that he had made for me! It was a seek-and-find game that he made of all my favourite things and also things that we’ve done together.
There were a few levels and in between each level was a sweet saying. I had finished the game, but at the very end of the game was another pop-up that said “Will you marry me?” I was in so much shock all I could say was “really?” I eventually said YES!!!
How Phil Remembers It:
February 15th, 2010. I will remember that night forever. I've never been so nervous and so terrified in all my life. Not that I didn't think Michelle would say yes to the question, but more about HOW I was going to pull this off and make it memorable and special for her. So, me being the nerd that I am, racked my brains out for weeks trying to think of the perfect way to propose to Michelle when it finally came to me. So with a plan in mind, I set out to make it happen.
Michelle and I have this tradition of seeing movies at the theater on Tuesday nights, so I thought what perfect way to disguise the night than pretending we were just going to see a movie? After she had already been let down that I didn't propose on Valentine’s day, she way already not expecting anything as it was a couple days to her birthday. One of the first places Michelle and I had ever gone to dinner was Kelsey's right across from the movie theater, so I figured what a better place to do it than our favourite restaurant?
We got to the restaurant and it was busier than usual, so they offered us a place at the bar... Michelle was hungry so she said yes and we sat at a crowded bar... Not the way I wanted to do this at all. So awkwardly I asked the waitress after getting our drinks if we could wait for a booth instead and just told Michelle I didn't like where we were sitting. Finally we got a booth and as we were waiting for our food, I pulled out our Android tablet and told her I made her a game!
It was a simple game, one of Michelle's favourite kinds. I took pictures of things she loved and things we did together and mashed them into a couple large pictures. Then with little clues on the side she had to go through the pictures and find all the objects. After 3 rounds of image finding it came up with a nice little phrase and picture, and when she clicked on the picture, BAM, "Will you marry me?" popped up on the screen and I pulled out the ring!
She was shocked to say the least, and before actually getting a real answer she asked if I was kidding or joking her like 12 times. But once the shock wore off, well, the rest is history! Love you Michelle!
